Participating at a ceremony to handover appointment letters to newly
appointed trainee nurses at the Janakala Kendraya, Battaramulla
recently, the minister said considering vacancies in the North and East
Provinces, 346 nurses were selected for training.
The minister said the North and East Provinces are seeing rapid
development after 30 years. “We are now living in a peaceful country. We
were unable to select nurses from the North and East Provinces who
passed the Advanced Level examination in the science stream as they
couldn't do their studies properly due to the war,” he said.
“All student nurses will be recruited to service after three years.
They will have to work for 10 years in the North and East,” the minister
said. He also requested the newly appointed student nurses to treat
patients kindly. Health Ministry Secretary Nihal Jayathilake and
Additional Secretaries Somaratne Widanapathirana and D M R B Dissanayake
also participated. |
