Keyword is caring, minister tells trainee nurses

People joining the health service should be patient and caring, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena hands over an appointment letter to a trainee nurse.

Participating at a ceremony to handover appointment letters to newly appointed trainee nurses at the Janakala Kendraya, Battaramulla recently, the minister said considering vacancies in the North and East Provinces, 346 nurses were selected for training.

The minister said the North and East Provinces are seeing rapid development after 30 years. “We are now living in a peaceful country. We were unable to select nurses from the North and East Provinces who passed the Advanced Level examination in the science stream as they couldn't do their studies properly due to the war,” he said.

“All student nurses will be recruited to service after three years. They will have to work for 10 years in the North and East,” the minister said. He also requested the newly appointed student nurses to treat patients kindly. Health Ministry Secretary Nihal Jayathilake and Additional Secretaries Somaratne Widanapathirana and D M R B Dissanayake also participated.
