Schoolgirl seduction case :

Akuressa PS chairman re-remanded

The Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha chairman remanded on charges of seducing a 14-year-old schoolgirl was re-remanded until July 30 when produced before Matara chief magistrate Udesh Ranatunga yesterday.

The suspect was earlier remanded until July 16 by Matara additional magistrate Dulani Amarasinghe who refused a bail application made by the suspect’s counsel D Dahanayake.

The schoolgirl is a resident of Ellawakanda, Poramba.

Police producing the suspect in court submitted the suspect had seduced the girl at a guest house in Akuressa owned by him.

Another two suspects including a barber and a 57-year-old labourer who are alleged to have abducted the girl while

returning home after a tuition class and seduced her at the agricultural centre at Poramba are also being held in remand custody.

Investigations are continuing.
