New AG receives appointment letter from President

Sarath Palitha Fernando PC appointed the new Attorney General,
received his appointment letter from President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
Temple Trees yesterday.
Fernando who is Sri Lanka’s 27th Attorney General is a past pupil of
Royal College, Colombo.
After passing out from the Sri Lanka Law College, he pursued higher
education
at the Colombo University and the Bristol University in UK, a
President’s Media Division release said yesterday. He entered the law
profession in 1979 as an attorney at law in the High Court. In 1980, he
joined the Attorney General’s Department as an Assistant State Counsel.
In 1989, he was appointed Senior State Counsel and appointed Deputy
Solicitor General in 1997.
In 2007, he functioned as Additional Solicitor General. Prior to his
appointment as Attorney General, he functioned as Solicitor General
since 2011.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga was also present.
