St Thomas' retain Ruhunu Masters Trophy

St Thomas' College Matara retained the Ruhunu Masters trophy for the
second consecutive year and lead the series with six wins to Rahula's
five.
The 11th Golden pennant foot ball encounter between Rahula and St
Thomas' was played under lights at the German Sri Lanka friendship
football stadium in Uyanwatta on Friday night. Rahula dominated the
first half of the game with Navindu Ediriweera scoring a goal in the
25th minute. But the gritty Thomians played hard in the second half with
Charith Brian Weerappulli equalizing five minutes before full time.
In the penalty shoot out Skipper Mohamed Afshan,Charith Brian
Weerappulli, Kavindu Priyankara and Tharindu Marlon scored for the
Thomians. The Thomian vice captain and goalie Rasika Sampath prevented
Navindu Ediriweera and Gayan Madhusanka from scoring.
The Uyanwatta foot ball stadium was packed with spectators but crowd
control was poor with the referee and linesman having to request for the
crowd to be moved back on many an occassion. Priyanka Pieris refereed .
