No one is above the law - Dinesh

The government yesterday said all public representatives at any level should abide by the law of the country and that it is committed to bring to book any one involved in misconduct or nefarious activities.

Chief Government Whip and Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardene said the spread of parasitic elements in the political and social fabric should be eradicated and President Mahinda Rajapaksa has very clearly underlined that no one is above the law of the country.

“Our society has undergone tremendous turmoil and violations of law and order during the last 30 years,” he said. The minister said the government has not hesitated to bring such culprits to book irrespective of their status in society. “The government is committed to take steps to give more teeth to public institutions to put a tab on this trend,” the minister added. Minister Gunawardene said certain elements in society are attempting to magnify these incidents to gain political mileage. He said these elements who failed to obtain a clear mandate from the people are involved in such activities to destabilise the country and the government.
