Abimansala second stage moves forward

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya who served as Wanni Commander during Humanitarian Operations had first-hand experience of witnessing the casualties, suffered by those War Heroes fighting the war against separatism. This led to the birth of the ‘Abimansala’, the permanent wellness resort for rehabilitation of the injured at Anuradhapura as a conceptual notion of the Commander with the launch of the ‘Brave Hearts’ project, meant for fund-raising and other preparations.

Soon after assuming office as Army Commander, he prioritized the devising of a special welfare programme, through which those injured War Heroes are taken care of and rehabilitated.

Thus, the ‘Brave Hearts’ project initiated construction work of these super-luxury type wellness resorts with hydrotherapy units, physiotherapy units, orthopedic units, swimming pools, etc which are much-needed requirements for such War Heroes.

Arrangements are now underway to construct wellness resorts of this type at provincial level.

With the blessings of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the first state of the art wellness resort by the Nuwara Wewa lakeside was inaugurated at Anuradhapura.

The ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ at Attidiya is now in operation for disabled War Heroes of the Western Province under the auspices of Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Army has identified 297 disabled Army War Heroes in total, contrary to allegations and rumours being spread saying that there are 500 or more.

The second project of this nature at Wilpitawatta, Kamburupitiya is to be completed within a year.

Funds for the successful conduct of these wellness resorts are generated through various projects, organized at regimental levels under the direct patronage of the Seva Vanitha Army branch and by the regiments themselves.

In addition, both local and overseas patriotic people and donors continue to provide financial assistance to the project. Attempts by various elements to claim the project as theirs amply testifies to the success of the project.
