Rajans take under 19 hockey title

Dharmaraja College Kandy became champions at the Kandy Schools Boys
Under 19 Hockey Championship when they beat St Sylvester's College 2-0
in the finals of the tournament organised by the Kandy District Schools
Hockey Association and played at the university grounds Peradeniya. At
half time Rajans led 1-0. After a keenly contested first 20 minutes of
play Rajan centre forward Rameel Dharmaratne drew first blood when he
moved the ball from the right flank to sound the board.
The Rajans put the issue beyond doubt when left inside Nisal A
Kularatne scored the second goal in the 21st minute after lemons. Last
year the Rajans finished joint champions with Kingswood College. In the
year 2011 the Rajans entered the finals but the tournament was not
completed that year. Rajans are coached by G G Dharmaratne.
Ajith Manjula and A Ekanayake umpired. In the semi finals St
Sylvester's College beat Vidyartha College 2-1 and Dharmaraja College
beat Kingswood College 2-0.
In the matches played earlier Dharmaraja College beat Vidyartha 2-1,
Vidyartha College beat Trinity College 2-1, Kingswood College drew with
St Sylvester's College 0-0, St Sylvester's College beat Kingswood
College 2-0, Dharmaraja College beat Kingswood College 2-0 and
Dharmaraja College beat Kingswood College 4-0. |
