Euro 2012 kicked-off in Poland and Ukraine on
Friday amid fears that racism and politics could overshadow Europe's
premier football showcase, held for the first time in countries once
behind the Iron Curtain. Warsaw and Kiev hoped to use the tournament
to highlight progress in their ex-Communist countries, but instead
have seen it mired in controversy over racist fans and Ukraine's
treatment of a top opposition leader. Hours before kick-off at the
opening match in Warsaw Friday -- which saw host Poland tie 1-1 with
Greece -- Dutch captain Mark van Bommel said his team heard racist
chants during a public training session in the southern Polish city

Spain’s weak banks need 40 billion euros - IMF
Spain's weak banks need at least 40 billion
euros (US$50 billion) in new capital to strengthen against severe
financial shocks, the International Monetary Fund said late Friday.
Stress tests performed by the IMF on the country's battered banking
sector indicated the top two banks, BBVA and Banco Santander, were
solid.

UN mission 'can't say who to blame' in Hama massacre

After dozens were reported slaughtered in the
Syrian village of al-Qubair, UN observers have been seeking to
establish the truth on the events. Yet as the government and
opposition accuse each other, the team admits it can't say who was
to blame. The United Nations monitors reached al-Qubair village in
central Hama province on Friday and said there was evidence that a
"horrific crime" had taken place there.

'Cyber attack on Iran Oil Ministry traced to US'
The head of Iran's cyber police says the
perpetrators behind the recent cyber attack on the Iranian Oil
Ministry have been traced to the US. Kamal Hadianfar told reporters
on Saturday that two suspicious American IP addresses were
identified in the cyber attack.
