The 100th day countdown for the ICC Twenty20
World Cup 2012 to be conducted in Sri Lanka from September 18 to
October 7 was launched in style at the Pallekelle International
Cricket Stadium, yesterday. Before going on to describe the launch,
the distinguished persons present at the media briefing
congratulated Sri Lanka's dynamic captain Mahela Jayawardena for
scoring 22,000 run in all forms of the game.

Defending champs Kandy SC tame Lions
Defending League Champions Kandy Sports Club did
not encounter much opposition before posting a fairly comfortable 26
points (4 tries, 2 penalties) to 11 (1 try, 2 penalties) win over
the new comers Upcountry Lions, Nawalapitiya in their Dialog League
rugby tournament match played before a large crowd at the Nittawela
Stadium, Kandy yesterday. At half time, Kandy Sports Club led 13-8.

Herbert Wijekoon - a hockey player par excellence
Herbert Wijekoon is the eldest from the famous Wijekoon
hockey family from Matale who left an indelible mark in the scene of
hockey which is very hard to emulate and this record may stand for a
long time. Four boys and two girls played for the national team. They
all played at the school level and later for the club teams at a time
when girls and boys thought twice before taking this game played with
sticks and ball as the risk of injury was greater unless one is skilled.
