Jaffna girls emerge champions

For the first time in the history of the National Youth Sports Festival, A Womens Netball Team from Jaffna District clinched the championship title at the Womens Netball Tournament 2012 recently held at Sri Lanka Youth Grounds, Maharagama.

Mens championship title secured by the Kegalle District Team. There were 26 Womens team and 21 mens teams participated in the tournament.

Jaffna District and Kalutara District (women) qualified for the finals and scoring 42 goals, Jaffna team enjoyed the victory.

In the mens final between Badulla and Kegalle Districts, the later clinched the championship title scoring 49 goals. Badulla team scored 33 goals. S. Waksala of Jaffna Team adjudged as the best sportswoman of the tourney and and the best male player was T.U.A. Chirantha of Kegalle team. The winners will be rewarded and awarded trophies and certificates at the 24th National Youth Sports Festival which will be held in July at Mahinada Rajapaksa International Stadium, Diyagama.
