No security threat to ICC WT20, says Tournament Director
The tournament director of the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012,
Upekha Nell, has said that there is no security threat on the ICC World
Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 to be staged in Sri Lanka from September 18 to
October 7. "Contrary to suggestions in some sections of the media, I
wish to reassure you that there is absolutely no security threat to the
ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 as no files were lost as alleged.
Further a comprehensive Security plan was discussed at the scheduled
Security Directorate meeting on June 8 and the plan will be constantly
monitored and reviewed thereafter.
The Sri Lanka government and Sri Lanka Cricket have assured the ICC
of providing a similar level of security to that offered for the ICC
Cricket World Cup 2011 which was one of the most successful events ever.
As such, there are no concerns over the event security but, as
always, the ICC will continue to regard the security of the players,
officials, spectators and media as its top priority.
ICC will continue to monitor the implementation of the security plan
and will continue to assist and guide the local authorities with its
feedback and comments," says the tournament director. |
