Woman defrauder arrested
A woman who had defrauded a job seeker for Rs 500,000 by promising to
find him a job in Japan, was arrested by officers of the Colombo Fraud
Bureau at Homagama town on Thursday. The suspect was produced before the
Nugegoda Magistrate and remanded till June 21. Investigations are
continuing.
Security officer dies of suspected methyl
Two private security officers who suddenly fell ill while on duty at
the Medical Supplies Division at Deans Road, Maradana, around 9 pm on
Wednesday, were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
One of them later died in hospital. The deceased was identified as
Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Vasantha, 28, of Kandamandiya, Ambagasdowa,
Godawela, Badulla.
At the post mortem examination, it had been revealed that death was
due to the entry of a substance named methyl into the system. Maradana
police is investigating.
Killed by wasps
A 64-year-old pedestrian died after being attacked by wasps on a road
near the Dehirayaya paddy field in Gal Edanda, Diyatalawa on Wednesday
afternoon.
The body is lying at the Diyatalawa hospital morgue awaiting an
autopsy. Diyatalawa police is investigating.
Tragedy strikes family of three
Tissamaharama police acting on a tip off, found three persons
including a husband, wife and their daughter fallen with bleeding
injuries, in their house, near a water tank at Weerahela on the 7th mile
post in Tissamaharama on Wednesday afternoon.
The mother and daughter were pronounced dead on admission to the
Debarawewa hospital. The father was later transferred to the Hambantota
hospital in a critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Jayawardene Abeysinghe Pathiranage
Lalani Pushpakumari, 30 and her daughter Kehelgolla Mudiyanselage Sehera
Padmini, 6. The injured father was identified as Kehelgolla
Mudiyanselage Sunil Shantha.
Tissamaharama police is investigating.
Arrested with venison
Three persons were arrested by the Bagawantalawa police for being in
possession of venison. They were due to be produced before the Hatton
Magistrate yesterday.
Labourer arrested for robbery
A labourer attached to the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation at Mutwal,
was arrested by the Modera police for breaking into the drivers' rest
room and robbing two mobile phones worth Rs 51,200 and removing two CCTV
cameras fixed in the facility.
The suspect was due to be produced before Hulftsdorp Magistrate
yesterday. Investigations are continuing. |
