SPC to develop small townships

The Southern Provincial Council has formulated a scheme to develop 22
small townships in the province under Pura Neguma Project by the
Economic Development ministry, chief Minister Shan Wijayala de Silva
said.
Under the scheme, six local government jurisdictions of Karandeniya,
Weliwitiya-Divitura, Nagoda, Tawalama, Neluwa and Imaduwa in the Galle
district, 11 such areas of Hakmana, Mulatiyana, Pasgoda, Kaburupitiya,
Thihagoda, Kirinda, Puhulwella, Akuressa, Malimbada, Athuraliya,
Kotapola, Pitabeddara, in Matara and another five, Katuwana, Tissa,
Hambantota, Lunugamwehera and Suriyawewa in the Hambantota district will
be developed.
Rs. 50 million has been allocated to uplift each local government
area and entire project costs Rs. 1100 million. The chief Minister said
arrangements have been made to establish weekly fairs, bus-stands,
public libraries, public toilets, drainage systems, three-wheeler parks,
public park and play grounds according the requirements of the township. |
