The Ports and Highways Ministry has undertaken a massive road
development programme to renovate the existing road network to provide
better transportation.
Under this programme, two major roads, Kurunegala- Kadhapola and
Kadhapola- Rambawewa found on the route from Kurunegala to Madampe via
Kuliyapitiya will be rehabilitated. Reconstruction of a 24 kilometre
road from Kurunegala to Kadhapola (B247) and 18.91 kilometre road from
Kadhapola to Rambawewa (B166) will commence under the patronage of Ports
and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala on June12.
The Kurunegala- Kadhapola road will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs
2,482 million while Rs 1,951 million will be spent for the
reconstruction of the Kadhapola- Rambawewa road.
Construction work has been entrusted to the Road Development
Authority. These two roads will benefit the people traveling to
Anuradhapura through Kurunegala.
"Infrastructure, especially the road network, is key to development.
"We hope rural farmers would easily access the markets in towns while
traders find business much easily after we complete the roads," Deputy
Minister Kothalawala said. |
