Navy arrests men with ganja worth over Rs 10 m

The Sri Lanka Navy seized a haul of Kerala ganja in the Uchchamunai
area in Kalpitiya along with three persons and a boat, on Thursday
night, Sri Lanka Navy media spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasooriya
told the Daily News .
The raid was conducted by naval troops attached to the Kalpitiya
Naval Base. Around 100 kilograms of ganja worth over Rs10 million were
seized.
Navy suspects the three men were trying to transport the ganja to Sri
Lanka from India.
The Navy handed over the men, the ganja and boat to Kalpitiya Police
for investigations.
The Navy maintains continuous surveillance along the coastal belt to
prevent drug smuggling via sea. Naval personnel have been able to bust a
number of cross border drug smuggling rackets and apprehend key
personnel. |
