Navy arrests men with ganja worth over Rs 10 m

The Sri Lanka Navy seized a haul of Kerala ganja in the Uchchamunai area in Kalpitiya along with three persons and a boat, on Thursday night, Sri Lanka Navy media spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasooriya told the Daily News .

The raid was conducted by naval troops attached to the Kalpitiya Naval Base. Around 100 kilograms of ganja worth over Rs10 million were seized.

Navy suspects the three men were trying to transport the ganja to Sri Lanka from India.

The Navy handed over the men, the ganja and boat to Kalpitiya Police for investigations.

The Navy maintains continuous surveillance along the coastal belt to prevent drug smuggling via sea. Naval personnel have been able to bust a number of cross border drug smuggling rackets and apprehend key personnel.
