'Police play vital role in country's development'

The Police service is a responsible public service and they have to play a vital role in the country's development while making an attitudinal change in the public about the police, Productivity Promotion Minister Lakshman Senewirathne said.

He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Productive Plan for Police programme at the Police Training School, Kalutara recently. Fifty police officers of 43 police divisions participated in the programme. This training course will be held for police officers islandwide.

"As persons who maintain law and peace in the country, police officers have to face many criticisms and sometimes they receive many allegations as well. But they should know how to carry out their duties bravely," he said.

The Productivity Promotion Ministry will extend its maximum support for the competition to select the best Policestation, the minister said. The Police Department is imparting a valuable service to the country and a huge contribution is made by the Police officers.

The Productivity Promotion Ministry is attempting to streamline these activities, Minister Senewirathne said.
