To safeguard poson pilgrims:
Aviva ndb deploys lifesavers
This Poson too, for the 19th consecutive year, AVIVA NDB has made the
customary arrangements to keep watch over the pilgrims who bathe in
reservoirs in and around Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Dambulla.
Over a million pilgrims visit Mihintale to commemorate the
introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka on this historic day. AVIVA NDB
Insurance has planned to deploy 575 lifesavers this year as a part of
the Poson safety campaign to safeguard the pilgrims.
Over the years, hundreds of Poson pilgrims have been rescued by
lifesavers deployed by AVIVA NDB Insurance. |
The lifesavers are volunteers from the Sri Lanka Police, the Navy and
the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka.
Apart from facilitating the presence of lifesavers, the Company
conducts an extensive safety awareness campaign during the Poson season,
using mass media, especially TV and radio broadcasts to communicate the
message islandwide.
Hoardings at prominent locations and pennants along the streets in
the Sacred City, are part of this campaign to safeguard unwary pilgrims.
In addition, the company distributes safety leaflets reminding
pilgrims that bathing in the tanks and reservoirs should be restricted
to locations identified as safe with warning boards installed by AVIVA
NDB to reiterate the message.
Broadcasts through the public address system in the Sacred City
amplify the message further.
The free shuttle service "Poson Vandana Train" will be operating
between Anuradhapura and Mihintale for the convenience and safety of
devotees.
Amal Perera, General Manager, Marketing and Bancassurance said: "We
take pride that our Corporate Responsibility initiatives like the Poson
safety campaign, are relevant to the needs of the nation." |
