Boy held for theft
A 14 year boy was arrested for stealing Rs 66, 000 from a temple in
Weligama. The suspect had broken into the Nidangalarama Temple at
Palalla on Saturday night to rob the money. Police found Rs 62,050 in
his possession. Matara Magistrate ordered the suspect to be kept under
detention in the Kithulampitiya Children's Home until June 1. Weligama
Police are investigating.
Treasure hunters caught red-handed
Four persons were arrested while hunting for treasure at Nainakanda
Watta, Rideewita, Meegahatenna on Tuesday by Meegahatenna Police .
Police seized the implements used including digging tools, torches and
offerings.
The suspects were to be produced in Matugama Magistrate court
yesterday.
Couple arrested for theft
A man and a woman alleged to have stolen gold jewelery from a shop in
Eraur were arrested on Tuesday by Eraur Police.
Police caught the duo while they were fleeing in a car with the
stolen goods.
The suspects were to be produced in Baticaloa Magistrate yesterday.
Kidnap attempt foiled : Three held
Three persons who attempted to kidnap a person to demand a ransom of
Rs 2.5 million were arrested by Colombo Crime Division ( CCD ) officers
on Tuesday. The suspects, residents of Mawanella were remanded until
June 6 by Mahara Magistrate.
Two arrested with cannabis
Two persons were arrested while they were transporting Kg 6.997 of
cannabis on a motorbike at Ottamawadi in Walachchenei. Walachchenei
Magistrate remanded the suspects for seven days. |
