'Paddy purchased from farmers without a break'

Paddy purchases from farmers in the Anuradhapura district by the
government is taking place without a break on the orders of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, according to Co-operatives and International Trade
Minister Johnston Fernando.
The President issued this order during his recent tour of the
Anuradhapura district, where the PMB was ordered to continue purchasing
paddy from the farmers of the district. The minister thereafter had
instructed the chairman of the PMB to purchase paddy from the
Anuradhapura farmers.
The highest yield was reported in Anuradhapura, which was 27,874
metric tonnes.
The total purchases of the PMB in the Maha season was 104,267 metric
tonnes for Rs 2,936 million, a media release issued by the ministry
stated. |
