Helping hand for traditional craftsmen

The Ceylon Industrial Development Board has embarked on a programme to uplift the living conditions of traditional craftsmen in the Kurunegala district.

Those who are engaged in the Palmirah leaf industry at Meddepola, Pottery at Tittawella, cashew production at Nawana and handmade paper production at Maspotha have been selected under the programme, said Industrial Development Board Assist Director M D Ratnayake.

The board will provide the craftsmen with modern machinery and technical know-how to uplift the industries.

The Assistant Director said the Board would help craftsmen to find markets for the products to enable them to sell them at a reasonable price.
