AWPA conducts free sterilization campaign in Dambulla
All tourists and visitors to Sri Lanka voice their concerns with
regard to the stray dog population in the cultural triangle.

Fortunately for the dogs at Dambulla, a young vet student, Karen
Hammes, contacted the AWPA for assistance.
Not only did she show her concern for these poor neglected and
helpless animals, she also offered to partly sponsor the programme. A
total of 59 dogs were sterilized. Of these 15 were house-pets and the
balance 44 community dogs.
The dogs with severe skin conditions were treated and they were also
immunized against rabies.
They thank Dr. Udayakantha Perera and his veterinary team for
assisting them in this programme and thank Karen Hammes for having
initiated this programme and sponsorship as well as a well-wisher from
the AWPA for meeting the balance cost of this sterilization campaign. |
