for the Beetles

The Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club held its 13th Annual Pride of Ownership drive recently. The Pride of Ownership drive has carried on "defiantly" for the past 13 years and has become the main event in the Club Calendar. Beetles of all ages and shades flock from all parts of the country, and since last year even from the very north being Jaffna, make it to this all Important event that is held traditionally on the last Sunday in March every year.

As one of the members stated, 'Happiness is a VW' and indeed it has been for many generations of the owners that have been proud to own such a car. As the President of the Club Peter Jasinghe endorses, "This strength through joy car absolutely brings joy to all of us who own it and it has been loved by all generations."

This year's event brought out surprises as the venue for the event was the Golden Mile along Beruwala. Over 50 cars participated where they showed off their shining VWs.

All this would not be possible without the kind assistance of LOLC Motors who were the main-sponsors of this unique event.

"Naturally, we're very proud of our heritage - few car manufacturers have produced so many legendary cars as Volkswagen. We think the best way to honour this legend is to celebrate it at the hotel. Its pioneering efforts to sustainability and eco friendliness are just up our street hence which is why we are proud to celebrate World Volkswagen Day the only car that has an international significance," GM Anura Dewapura added.

"World Volkswagen day celebrations will be held on June 24. It is to begin at a historic site in Colombo and end at the iconic Mount Lavinia Hotel.
