Sri Lankan market impressive -Goodman

The growth of Singer operations in Sri Lanka have been very impressive and its performance is the best in the region said Singer global Chairman Stephen H. Goodman.

Speaking at the opening of their singer plus show room in Colombo 3 yesterday he said that though this growth slowed last year, its preference was still the best in the region.

“I am highly impressed with the Sri Lankan market,” he said. With a proud history of over 135 years to the nation, Singer Sri Lanka opened this state of the art showroom yesterday in Colpetty under the presence of Singer Worldwide Chairman Stephen H. Goodman, President and CEO, Executive Director - Gavin Walker who specially flew for the event. Notably this is also the first ever occation Singer Worldwide Chairman - Stephen H. Goodman, opened a singer plus showroom in Sri Lanka out of the 168 showrooms that are available isalndwide.

CEO, Gavin Walker speaking on the Sri Lankan market and the economy said that the country's economic growth was very high in comparison to other countries in the region and this has opened up more opportunities for Singer. “The GDP and per capita income is higher than any other country in the region.”

He said that the Sri Lankan success story is a model to other countries in the region where they operate.

Commenting on the future plans he said they would focus on expanding Singer Finance. “Research have found out that top commercial banks in Sri Lanka mainly service the high end customers while there are several other financial institutions that cater to the SME and the micro sector,” he said.

Walker said that their main client base is from the middle class and there is hardly anyone to support them. Singer Worldwide and Singer Finances main concern would be to attract this segment,” he added.
