Etisalat to power monthly golf at Victoria

Etisalat Lanka (Pvt) Limited has come forward to sponsor the monthly golf championship of the Victoria Golf and Country Resort for May 2012, which will be worked off at the picturesque 18 hole golf course of Victoria at Rajawella off Kandy on May 26.

This was disclosed at a briefing by the Marketing Manager of Victoria Golf and Country Resort Dhanushika Medagoda at a briefing.

She said that in the past golfers have displayed a strong affiliation towards participating in golf competitions at Victoria. The last competition held here was the Lanka UAE Golf Championship which was originally intended for 100 golfers but 115 golfers entered the fray and they had to draw a line to restrict the golfers as it was a one off golf championship with lavish prizes thrown in.

She thanked Etisalat for coming forward to sponsor this event and last year too they sponsored a competition apart from assisting to upgrade facilities.

Medagoda said that this championship will be of Stableford format and will comprise the following events:

Ladies Net Championship, Men's Division I Championship, Men's Division II Championship, Men's Overall Net Championship, Men's Gross Championship, Ladies Gross Championship, Longest Drive, Nearest to the Pin.

Entries are now open and further details could be had by telephoning the Pro-Shop 081-2376376 or 0777-840894, 0727-840894 or log into www.golfsrilanka.com.

Bright weather is prevailing at Victoria at present and the course is in excellent condition with the facilities further upgraded. A large number of golfers are expected to tee off at this competition which is expected to commence at 7.30 am on Saturday May 26.

Some of the top golfers who are expected to tee off are Ian Tait, Errol Johnston, Sujeewa Lankatillake, Sirath Kasthuriratne, Suren Wass, Sunil Jayakody, Dayananda Ukwatta, Nishan Nawaratne, Sarath Piyaratne, Sidath Wettimuni, Tony Withan, just to name a few. The ladies who are expected to be in the fray are Niloo Jayatillake, Suwen Selvaratnam, Manori Jayakody, Sonia Boyle, Jyoti Haynes, Linda Harris, A Rasika, Sandhya Kumari, S Ukwatta, Danny Hameed, Pauline Morley.

A full day's interesting golf is in store and the presentation of awards will take place in the club house after completion of the events in the afternoon.
