House each, for selected youth in Wayamba

Wayamba Provincial Council Housing Minister Sanath Nisantha Perera has planned to build a house for each selected youth in every Divisional Secretariat division in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts, within two years.

He disclosed this at a media briefing held at his ministry on Friday.

Minister Perera said the government has drawn up plans to solve the housing problems of the people within two years through several housing projects. He said even the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) has a new housing project under which houses are being constructed for the youth.

The NYSC spends Rs 100,000 on each house and our ministry will spend Rs 25,000 under this programme to build a house for a youth in every DS division in Wayamba.

He said a recent survey conducted by the Provincial Ministry of Road Development, Power and Housing, revealed there were 74,000 families in Wayamba who do not have a house of their own.
