Handicrafts at reduced prices at Shilpa Gama

National Craft Council Chairman Budhdhi Keerthisena said people can buy handicrafts easily and at a reduced price from Shilpa Gama, without the mediation of middlemen. They can buy handicrafts with a 40 percent discount from the creators themselves, at the site.

Foreign visitors to Shilpa Gama of the Janakala Kendraya in Battaramulla have increased during the past few months, a National Craft Council spokesman said.

Shilpa Gama is open to the public from 10.00 a.m to 6.00 p.m daily; and visits by schoolchildren have increased, he said.

Batik, cane products, silver items, brass items, sea shell products, ceramic, coconut shell products and other handicrafts can be bought at the site. Prisoners' products and products of Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation are also available at Shilpa Gama, he said.
