University students are usually known
for their radical militancy and their clashes with the
authorities exemplified by the situation in Sri Lanka where
over the years our campuses
have been hotbeds of student violence. Be that as it may,
our Daily News Horana correspondent was witness to a change
in this popular conception of university students
that belied this reputation, when the university students of
Horana took time off to share some moments with residents of
the Horana Elders’ Home on Vesak Day and made this day a
pleasurable and exciting one for these lonely feeble persons
spending the evening of their lives in quiet solitude.
Members of the Sri Lanka Graduates’ Society, Horana, also
took it upon themselves to wash shave, bathe and clean the
residents and dress them up in fresh clothing. The graduates
then presented them with new clothes, soap, tooth-paste and
other needs. This was followed by a tea party hosted by the
graduates. There were more than 50 residents at this Elders’
Home who were deeply moved by this kind and meritorious act.
Later, they all joined together in a sing-song. Picture
