The Eastern Naval Command held Vesak celebrations on May 5 under the
patronage of Eastern Province Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama.

He opened the Vesak celebrations organised by the Eastern Naval
Command at the invitation of Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral
Jayanath Colombage.
A colourful procession, proceeding from SLN Dockyard entrance to
Tissa Temple, paraded through Trincomalee town to mark the commencement
of the Eastern Command’s Vesak celebrations.
A Bodhi Pooja followed by a Dhamma Deshana was also conducted at
Tissa Viharaya with the attendance of Commander Eastern Naval Area and
Naval personnel of the Eastern Naval Command.
A two-day rice dansela was also held to coincide with the
celebrations. A large number of people from Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim
communities participated symbolising the religious harmony in the area.
Beautifully decorated Vesak lanterns, made by Naval personnel attached
to Naval establishments, ships and craft under the Eastern Naval Command
were also on display. |
