LLRC recommendations:

Action Plan being finalised

An Action Plan for the implementation of recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) is being prepared by the government.

External Affairs Deputy Minister Neomal Perera said yesterday many stakeholders were involved in the process, including his ministry. He said it would be a comprehensive document which would include suggestions and recommendations by many, including those of ministries and political parties.

The deputy minister said previous efforts in this regard, recommendations already implemented and the ones remaining to be implemented would be evaluated.

He said the authorities would look to develop both short term and long term measures to address issues raised by the LLRC in its report.

When questioned about the involvement of other political parties, the deputy minister said suggestions and recommendations by other political parties too would be taken aboard when preparing it.

Perera said he could not give a definite time frame on when it is to be completed at present but added this would be done shortly.
