Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) has been recognised as a centre of teaching excellence for over a decade. During this period, the institute has risen to become a top contender in the fields of Information Technology, Business Management and Electronic Engineering. SLIIT continues to expand and diversify its horizons to cater to the challenging demands within the disciplines, seeking to provide students with a holistic education which goes beyond academic excellence and extends to personal development.

SLIIT is a highly reputed institute approved by the University Grants Commission for the award of degrees and is a member of the renowned Association of Commonwealth Universities, an association of over 2,700 universities and institutes of higher education encompassing the entire Commonwealth. The institute places strong focus on professional employment upon graduation, hence SLIIT's local and global academic and industry affiliations seek to augment students' vistas for employment in their respective fields of specialisation so that they may reach the pinnacle of their profession. Chairman of SLIIT, Professor S. Karunaratne elaborates that "the institute provides an array of opportunities for students to enjoy recreational activities and showcase their diverse talents through a number of extracurricular activities. These activities range from sports such as tennis, rugby, badminton, rowing and basketball, arts and cultural activities, an interactive society, an Information Technology Student Community and other student societies. SLIIT's recently formed rowing team is also making preparations for a Regatta in September this year". The institute has been on a winning streak and enjoyed a number of successes in tennis and badminton events recently, securing trophies at the Inter University Tennis Tournament and the University of Moratuwa Inter University Shuttler's Fest (UMiSF) 2012.

"Additionally, SLIIT encourages students to regularly engage in IT related and other competitions both at national and regional level, which has brought in many accolades throughout the years. Students are also encouraged to contribute towards the betterment of their community by participating in various community-driven initiatives, such as blood donation campaigns" notes President and chief executive officer (CEO) of SLIIT, Professor Lalith Gamage.

SLIIT possesses state-of-the-art facilities and well-equipped laboratories coupled with a highly skilled panel of lecturers to deliver professional services for a well-rounded education at a reasonable cost. The institutes scope as a centre for academic excellence and as a forerunner in the arena of research and development ensures the availability of a rich pool of experts in the IT, Business Administration and Electronic Engineering spheres within the country.

It is estimated that half of the country's IT sector professionals have received their education or training at SLIIT, which speaks a great deal for the success of SLIIT as an educational institution of higher learning and its immense contribution towards moulding experts for the relevant industries in Sri Lanka.
