Peterites walk for the chapel

A walk to raise funds for the chapel of St Peter's College, Colombo will be held on May 13.

The walk will also see old boys from the quadrangular schools, namely St Anthony's, St Benedict's and St Joseph's joining in solidarity with their Peterite brethren.

The day's programme will start with Holy Mass at 7.30 am concelebrated by the Old Boys' Union patron, St Peter's College Rector Rev Fr Travis Gabriel, together with old Peterite priests and the priest community in College.

Participation at the walk will be through the purchase of T-shirts which are on sale at the Old Boys' Union Lounge and at the gym. There will be caps and other memorabilia for sale.

The route for the walk will be - starting from St Peter's to Wellawatte, turn back at the traffic lights and walk to Dickman's Road junction and return to college.


Dansela

The annual Vesak dansela organised by the Veyangoda Railway Station will be held on May 5,6 and 7 at the Veyangoda Railway Station.

A Vesak lantern competition, Bakthi Gee ceremony, Buddhist drama and films, kavi bana desana, dharma desana, soft drinks and herbal drinks will be provided free.

Spectacles will be provided for the needy. A bull destined for slaughter will also be released.

The religious committee of the Veyangoda Railway Station, Passenger's Welfare Society and Traders' Association is organising the activities. Monetary awards will be presented to winners. Contact 0723591698.


The ice cream dansela organised for the second consecutive year by Colombo City Hotels (Pvt) Ltd will be held today at 6pm at no 33, Canal Row, Fort, Colombo 1.


The Vesak pandal depicting Vidula Jathakaya by Kopparawatta Youth Organisation, Matara will be on display for the 18th consecutive year.


The Vesak dansela by Otters Aquaitc Club will be held at the club premises tomorrow at 6pm.

This is organised by members Anu Jayasinghe and Paul Cooray.
 


Largest Buddhist flag

The Isipathanaramaya temple of Vevala, Bokkaavala, Pujapitiya is making the largest Buddhist flag in the world. The flag will be 200 feet long and 100 feet wide.

Presently, the largest Buddhist flag is in Thailand. It is created with 9,000 square feet of cloth.


Pali-Sinhala dictionary

The Buddhist Cultural Centre will publish a Pali-Sinhala dictionary comprising 26,000 words to mark Vesak, Centre Director Ven Kirama Wimalajothi Thera said. The centre will establish an organization to discuss issues of the Buddhasasana in keeping with the Vesak ceremony, the thera said.


Son clubs father

A teenage boy clubbed his drunken father for assaulting his mother, and ran away from home.

The father who sustained head injuries, was admitted to the Dambulla base hospital while his wife was also hospitalized to the same hospital with injuries.

They are residents of the Dambulla Yapagama area.
