Fifteen pc tax on imported milk powder
A tax of 15 percent or Rs.92 per kilogramme of imported milk powder,
except infant milk powder has been revised by the government, Finance
and Planning Ministry sources said.
UNP councillor dies in accident
Sandasen MARASINGHE
Kadugannawa UNP Urban Councillor Subasinghe Siriwardena who was run
over by a bus on the A-9 road in Kilinochchi onTuesday died on admission
to Kilinochchi Hospital.
The bus driver was arrested.
Kilinochchi police are investigating.
Essay contest on Tagore
The last date of the Essay Competition on Rabindranath Tagore
organized by Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo is extended to May 15.
The competition will be in Sinhala, Tamil and English for the
Advanced Level and undergraduates of universities.
The competition is to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of
Rabindranath Tagore. There will be three cash prizes and certificates in
each language category. The first prize will be Rs 15,000, the Second
Prize Rs 10,000 and the Third Prize Rs 5,000 in each language.
The topic of the competition is Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Lanka.
The essays may be sent with the contact details of the participant to
the Indian Cultural Centre, 16/2, Gregory's Road, Colombo 7.

Blood donation
A blood donation campaign will be held on May 5 from 8 am to 3 pm at
the Gangodawila, Delkanda High Levl Plaza trade complex, Nugegoda.
AGM
The 54th Annual General Meeting of the Ceylon Artillery Association
will be held on May 13 at 10.30am at the fourth Artillery Regimental
premises at the Army Cantonment Panagoda. Transport is available at the
Ex-Servicemen's Association at Bristol Street, Colombo 10 at 9.30am.
Public lecture
Environment consultant and former project manager and project
coordinator of Ruk Rakaganna (The Tree Society of Sri Lanka) Pubudu
Weerarathna will speak on 'Human animal conflict in Sri Lanka' at the
monthly public lecture series of the American Centre on May 8 at 3pm at
the American Centre auditorium. Entrance is free.
Medical camp
The Association for Thoughts and Activities (ATA) in collaboration
with Serendib Foundation for Relief and Development will hold a free
medical camp at Zahira College, Dharga Town on Sunday from 8am to 4pm.
