Vesak programmes

Bauddhaloka Mawatha

The All Ceylon Buddhist Congress will hold the Vesak Festival centering the ACBC building, Bauddhaloka Mawatha Colombo 7 and Gregery’s Road.

The ceremony will conclude with the Budhdhabhi Wandana cultural show at Independence Square on May 8 at 7.30pm. The final programme will be organized by the ACBC and the Prime Minister's office.

It will be held under the patronage of Prime Minister DM Jayaratne and with the participation of ministers. The programme will be held under the guidance of ACBC President Jagath Sumathipala.The Sil programme will be held at the ACBC building from 6.00am to 6.00pm on Vesak day. The sil programme will be telecast on the National Rupavahini under the title Sadhaham Sevana.

Sacred relics from the ancient temple of Gedige in Kandy will be exhibited from May 5 to 8 at the ACBC.

Lantern exhibition, pandal displays, art exhibitions and Bodu Bethi Gee ceremonies will also be held.The Vesak Perehera organized by the Sambodhi Viharaya in Colombo 7 will parade the streets on May 7.

5.30 pm - Termination and renewal of sil
6.15 pm – Atavisi Pooja and Sathsathi Pooja by Ven Habaratuwe Chandananda thera
7.30 – 8.30 pm - Dhammadesana in English by Ven Tawatcha Surapanyo thera (Thai monk)

Dansela

A fried rice dansela organised by the residents of Boralugoda will be held at Rukmal Terrace, Athurugiriya on May 6 from 11am to 2pm.

Bath Dansela

The maha Vesak bath dansela organised by the Pahala Imbulgoda Tharuna Kela will be held at Pahala Imbulgoda, 14 Kanuwa on Vesak Poya day, May 5. This is the 27th annual dansela organised by the Pahala Imbulgoda Tharuna Kela.
