Environment-friendly school to be selected

The Suwasara Thaksalawa 2012 competition organised by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) in collaboration with the Environment Ministry and the Education Ministry has commenced at district level to select the best school with a clean and beautiful environment.

This programme, initiated in 2002, motivates schools to maintain and promote a clean environment while preventing dengue mosquito breeding sites with the help of schoolchildren. This competition is open for schools islandwide. CEA senior officials will visit and analyse the schools under criteria.

Environment-friendly garbage disposal methods, gardening and growing of herbal and indigenous plant varieties, proper maintenance of drainage systems, conducting outdoor lessons in a manner that promotes a close link with nature and achievements of the school in environmental activities will be considered for this competition.
