Outstanding efforts by new soccer clubs

Several up and coming new soccer clubs entered the first round when
they upset some experienced soccer teams in the Holcim FA cup 2012
qualifying round matches, worked off at several venues over the past two
weeks.
One of the tough battles was between Zavia SC from Dharga town and
Old Hinduitz SC Colombo where Zavia SC defeated the the latter by 6-5 at
their home ground in Aluthgama. EPZ SC, Polgahawela had the better of
former division 1, Kandy SC by 2-1 at Bogambara.
Another well known club from Kandy, Hyline SC had to taste a bitter
defeat from Young Birds SC from Nuwara Eliya by 0-1.
In another encounter at Point Pedro, Diamond SC, Alvai defeated St
Anthony's SC, Mannar by 6-4.
The match that recorded the most number of goals from one team was
worked off at Seewali grounds, Ratnapura.
High Landers SC wiped off Micro SC, Hatton by 11-0.
Wajira Jayanath netted seven goals including a hat trick. Indika
Amarasena and Sajith Priyan scored two goals each.
It was another exciting match between Green Beret SC, Hikkaduwa and
Hambantota SC.
The lads from Hikkaduwa had no difficulty to send their opponent out
of the competition by a goal margin of 8-0.
Maththegoda SC and Youngsters SC were awarded 3-0 wins as York SC and
Young Marians SC did not turn up for the scheduled matches.
37 matches in the qualifying round were worked off during last two
week ends.
The rest of the matches that have been postponed due to many reasons
will be played this week end. |
