Two die in accident

Two women died after they were knocked down by a van at Hewapola in Kurunegala on Tuesday.

They had been walking along the Kandy - Kurunegala main road when the van heading to Kandy hit them. The Police have identified the women as M Asilin and R Ariyawathi of Pilassa.

The van driver was arrested. He was produced before the Kurunegala magistrate yesterday.


Two drown in Kithulgahapitiya tank

Two youths drowned while bathing in the Kithulgahapitiya tank in Katupotha on Tuesday.

The Police identified the deceased as Mohommad Nafli, 15, and G Prasanna, 19, of Nuwara Eliya. Their bodies were sent to the Muwanhela hospital morgue. Katupotha Police are investigating.


Wasp attack

Two persons were seriously injured due to wasps attacking them at a car park in Kataragama.

They are being treated at the Hambantota hospital. The hive was near a water tank at a car park in Kataragama, the Police said. The victims were first admitted to the Kataragama hospital and later transferred to Hambantota.


Eight nabbed for treasure hunting

Galewela police arrested eight persons who were hunting for treasure in a temple in Galewela.

The suspects were digging the old dagoba of Sri Jinarathana Raja Maha Vihara in Awariyapathana. They were produced before the Dambulla magistrate yesterday.


Father, daughter stabbed

A man and his daughter were killed while his wife was seriously injured after they were stabbed at Kubukkana in Moneragala on Tuesday.

The Police have arrested a suspect in connection to this murder.

The bodies of B L Dayarante and B L Chitrani were sent to the Moneragala hospital morgue. The injured woman is being treated at the Moneragala hospital. Police said a personal dispute between the suspect and the victims has been the reason for the crime.

Moneragala police are investigating.


Bodies found

A body of a man was found in a forest in Nawandakulama in Mundalam on Tuesday.

The Police identified the deceased as K D C Priyanath Silava of Mundalama. The body had been there for several days, police said. It was sent to the Chilaw hospital morgue for the postmortem.

Meanwhile, Nittambuwa Police have commenced investigations to arrest a suspect in connection to the death of a person whose body was found in a teak estate in Nittambuwa. Police said the postmortem report confirmed that L P Danawatte, a resident of Pasyala died due to injuries to the head which caused external bleeding.
