From April 29 to May 4
The poya programme will be held under the patronage of Viharadhipathi
Agga Maha Panditha Most Venerable Weligama Gnanarathana Maha Nayaka
thera.
A Sath Budu Pooja was held on April 29 and thereafter a Dhamma sermon
was delivered by the venerable thera. This programme will be held
everyday until May 4 from 6 pm.

Sil cloths for elders
Kurunegala district Retired School Teachers' Association has arranged
to donate sil cloths to 1,000 elderly persons on Vesak Poya Day.
Association Assistant President A M Premaratne told the Daily News
that Rs one million has been allocated for this purpose.
Deserving persons have been selected from the Kurunegala and Puttalam
districts on the recommendations of the Divisional Secretaries.
Facilities for pilgrims to Wattarama temple

Thousands of pilgrims are expected to worship the Wattarama Sri
Maliyadeva Raja Maha Viharaya on Vesak Poya Day.
Transport facilities will be provided from Kurunegala, Alawwa and
Kegalle while temporary toilet facilities have been set up for the
convenience of the pilgrims.
There will be four dansalas from Alawwa to Wattarama temple.

A rice and curry dansala, served on a Nelum leaf (Nelum kole) will be
held on Vesak Full Moon Poya Day (6 and 7) at the Alawwa town. The
dansala is organised by the Koholana Vesak Dansal committee. A manioc
dansala organised by the Alawwa Youth League will be held on the on
Vesak Poya Day (6th) in the Alawwa town.

Amila PRABATH WANASINGHE
A manioc dansala jointly organised by the Nuwaragampalatha East
Pradeshiya Sabha, Divisional Secretariat and the Sri Lanka Army's 3rd
Police Services Battalion, will be held at the 1st mile post, Kudawewa,
Galkulama on May 5.
Migadaye Vesak Kalapaya
The Sambuddhathva Jayanthi Mandiraya and the Derana channel have
organised the Migadaye Vesak Kalapaya from May 5 to7 covering Isipathana
Mawatha and the surrounding areas.
The Migadaye Vesak Kalapaya has been organised in connection with the
60th anniversary of Isipathana College and the 2,600th Sambuddhathva
Jayanthi.
This is the first time that a school is organising a Vesak Kalapaya
which will include Vesak lanterns, pandols,Bhakthi Gee recitals, dansel
and other features. |
