Solar power for families in Mankendy

Participants at the ceremony

Measures have been taken to supply solar power electricity to 43 families in Mankendy village in the Madu Divisional Secretariat division.

The remote Mankendy village in the 611 Brigade are under the Madu Divisional Secretariat and had no electricity due to terrorist activities. Even though the area was liberated from terrorism, the area could not be connected to the national grid due to its remoteness. Therefore, 43 families were gifted with solar power operated electricity generating circuits under the financial assistance of Canadian Gods Own Children Foundation with the coordination of the Sri Lanka Army and New Dawn Energy Solutions Company Limited.

Under this solar power electrification scheme, 166 people belonging to 43 families will have solar power generated electricity for domestic and other uses. The pre- school in the area was among the first to receive solar power electricity.

The scheme was commissioned by Brigadier Ajith Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding 61 Division during a ceremony at the Mankendy village.

Officials of the sponsoring organisation and the coordinating company, a large gathering of children and beneficiaries attended the ceremony.
