Tipsy passenger arrested
A passenger on a Mihin Lanka flight travelling from Dubai to Sri
Lanka, was arrested for unruly behaviour by the Bandaranaike
International Airport Police on Monday.
Police said he had been under the influence of liquor and his
behaviour had disturbed the crew and passengers.
Despite being advised by the pilot, he had turned violent and
assaulted two crew members when the plane was about to land.
The BIA police produced the suspect at the Aluthkade magistrate's
court who granted him bail. BIA Police are investigating.
Suspect nabbed for thefts
Balagolla Police on Monday, arrested a suspect in connection with a
series of crimes committed in various parts of the island.
Police said the suspect had been responsible for snatching gold
chains, stealing money and valuable items.
Interrogations revealed the suspect together with three others had
carried out thefts in Wennappuwa, Mihintale, Anuradhapura, Pugoda,
Negombo and Kandy.
Police seized cigarettes worth Rs 150,000, mobile phones and receipts
of pawned jewellery worth Rs 700,000.
Police also found a pair of handcuffs, a locally made pistol and T 56
bullets used to carry out the robberies. Balagolla Police are
investigating.
Nepalese found dead
Bambalapitiya Police found the body of a Nepalese national hanging at
a night club on Monday. Poorna Bahadur (32), had been the DJ at the
night club. Investigations are continuing.
The body was sent to the Colombo National Hospital morgue.
Maldivian arrested for fraud
A Maldivian national was arrested on Monday for allegedly cheating Rs
51,800 from a resident of Maharagama.
Police said the suspect had sent an SMS to the victim saying he had
won Rs 500,000 in a raffle from a leading beverage company.
The suspect had asked the victim to make a payment to collect the
prize money. The suspect was to be produced before the Maharagama
magistrate's court.
Treasure hunters arrested
Nine persons were arrested while hunting for treasure in
Hallolukanda, Kotakadeniyawa.
Police seized a backhoe loader, a compressor and two detonators used
in the illegal act.
The suspects were to be produced before the Minuwangoda magistrate.
