CPA annual conference here in September

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) annual conference
will be held in Sri Lanka from September 7 to 15, Deputy Speaker
Chandima Weerakkody said. The 58th CPA annual conference to be held in
Sri Lanka for the third time will be chaired by Speaker Chamal
Rajapaksa.
Weerakkody, the conference’s organising committee chairman, said the
inauguration ceremony will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa
Theatre while the other conferences will be held at the BMICH.
The Deputy Speaker said this event is the apex of all CPA activities
held each year and will bring together around 800 Parliamentarians and
Parliamentary staff from 175 CPA branches to discuss and share
experiences pertaining to the strengthening of Parliamentary democracy
throughout the Commonwealth.
He said around 1,000 delegates, including participants’ spouses, are
scheduled to participate.
Weerakkody said plans are underway to take the participants to
several selected tourist destinations which will be a boost for the
country’s tourism sector.
