Gamini - a fine sportsman

H. M. Gamini Seneviratne, the Government Agent and District Secretary, Kandy in an all round sportsman who uses his sports capabilities for his Administration work. He had his early eduction at a rural school called Kiulpane MMV, Kegalle and from there he came to Kingswood College, Kandy in 1974 and then to Sylvesters College, Kandy from 1975 to 1981 and entered University of Peradeniya in the year 1982.

Gamini Seneviratne was an Athlete, Black Belt in Karate, Table Tennis and Chess player with repute. Although he was in the Peradeniya Campus he had to spend two years at Dumbara Campus as the Arts Faculty was functioning there at that time.

He was the President of the Sports Council at Dumbara Campus and he continued his athletics, TT, Chess and also instructed Karate to his fellow students. He got through his Sri Lanka Administrative Service after passing out as an Arts Graduate from the Peradeniya Campus.

He joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in the year 1987 and the first appointment was as an Asst. Govt. Agent at Galigamuwa in the Kegalle District and he served there from 1988 to 1992.

Then he came to Rambukkana as the Provincial Secretary and he remained there from 1992 to 1994. From 1994 to 1995 he served as a Director of Industries at the Sabaragamuwa Province.

From 1995 to 1997 he was the Provincial Secretary, Laggala and from 1997 to 1999 he was the Provincial Secretary of Kundasale. From 1999 to 2005 he was the Provincial Secretary of Gangawata Korale and from 2005 to 2006 he was appointed as the Secretary of the Governor of Central Province.

From 2006 to 2010 December he was the District Secretary, Matale and from there he came to Kandy as the Government Agent and District Secretary.

At all these places he organized sports activities with the busy schedule of administration work and introduced State services sports competitions annually such as Athletics, Volleyball, Netball, Kabadi, Cricket etc. for men & women. Now it is widened to other Districts because of his dedication.

Today, Gamini Seneviratne is one of the youngest Special Grade SLAS Officers in the Island.
