Two arrested with drugs and cash

Two persons were arrested with 600 grammes of heroin together with Rs 2,085,000 by the Police Anti - Narcotics Bureau on Saturday.

They were nabbed when the police searched a vehicle at Sapugaskanda junction on the Gonawala road in Kelaniya. One suspect , a resident of Kelaniya was in possession of the heroin and the money which the police believe to be drug money.

Police said the other suspect, a resident of Nugegoda was an accomplice.

They are being held by police for further questioning.


Remanded for stealing statues

A person who allegedly broke into the Kohomba Devala in Marassan , Gurubedda and stole antiquities was remanded until May 2 by the Kandy magistrate. The incident occurred on April 7.

The Police carried out investigations until they arrested the suspect , a resident of Thalatuoya with the items stolen including embedded wooden planks and statues of deities.


Electrocuted body found

Gampaha police have commenced investigations into a death of a man whose body was found on the road in front of a house in Udugampola, Gampaha.

On April 26, Police found 21-year R H D Nadeeshan Lakpriya of Udugampola dead on the road side and the post mortem revealed that the cause of his death was electrocution. Gampaha police are investigating.


Two die in accident

A motorcyclist and pillion rider died when their motorcycle collided with a jeep in Thalaramba in Matara on Friday.

The incident took place in front of Thalaramba Indrasara school. They were admitted to Matara hospital where they succumbed to their injuries on the same day.

Police identified the victims as Lahiru Gayan of Weligama and Suranga Dilshan of Galle.

The driver of the jeep has been remanded until May 3 when he was produced in Matara magistrate's court. Weligama police are investigating continue investigations.
