Kelani Cables, Peradeniya University sign up for five years more

The unique partnership of University of Peradeniya and Kelani Cables Plc., has been given a new lease of life as these two extended their historic agreement by coming together to sign up for a further five years recently.

The event took place at Hotel Galadari, Colombo.

The Vice Chancellor University of Peradeniya, Prof. S.B.S. Abeyakoon together with Mahinda Saranapala CEO Kelani Cables PLC., entered into an agreement to promote self-employed electricians, and even school leavers to become professional electricians, after having followed an Industrial and Domestic Wiring Course that had been especially designed for them by Prof. Janaka Ekanayake of the University of Peradeniya way back in 2007.

Thus far, already over 200 students have followed this course, of which 102 of them have successfully completed the course, having got through all three levels, inclusive of the ten modules of the Exclusive Electricians Course.

Prof. Manjula Fernando, Course Director, briefed all those present about their progress, and Jayantha Wijesinghe, Course Co-ordinator and Project Manager Kelani Saviya, delivered the vote of thanks and in doing so urged the successful students who obtained their Certificates from the Vice Chancellor Prof. S.B.S. Abeyakoon on completing the Kelani Saviya Course, that each of them should in turn, now help educate a minimum of two individuals at least and contribute two more skillful electricians to our motherland for the future.

Anil Munasinghe (G.M. Marketing) and Upul Mahanama . (G.M. Operations) and Hemamali Karunasekera (G.M. Finance), were also present at the occasion, representing the Kelani Cables PLC., contingent, while the University of Peradeniya was represented by Dr. Athapatthuraja, Dr. V. Uduwala and Prof. Manjula Fernando.
