World Dance commemoration

The commemoration festival to mark World Dance Day will be held on
April 29 at the John De Silva Memorial Theatre under the patronage of
the Culture and Arts Affairs Minister T.B. Ekanayake, a Cultural Affairs
Ministry spokesman said.
Prof Mudiyanse Dissanayake and Prof Tissa Kariyawasam will deliver
two special lectures to commemorate this occasion. A photographic
exhibition and a foreign ballet dance film will also be held.
Four artists who rendered their services to the country, M.P.
Ganithasara in the field of up-country traditional dance, A.D.
Weerasingha in the field of low-country traditional dance, P.M. Babanis
in Sabaragamuwa traditional dance and Pathmini Selvendran in Baratha
traditional dance will be conferred the Narthanabhimani Award at this
festival.
This festival is jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Department
and the State Dance and the Oriental Ballet Dance Panel of the Sri Lanka
Arts Council, under the direction of the Culture and the Arts Affairs
Ministry, the spokesman said. |
