The six Sri Lankan fishermen rescued from Somali pirates and brought
to the island on Thursday, had been subjected to cruel treatment and had
suffered a traumatic experience, the owner of Nimesha Duwa fishing
vessel, S A M Fernando told the Daily News yesterday.
He said the rescued fishermen were ecstatic when they saw their
families, after being held captive for six months.
He said most of the fishermen had even given up hope of living until
they were rescued by a Spanish ship.
The rescued fishermen who are residents of Kalutara and Negambo have
now returned to their homes and are recovering from the traumatic
experience they underwent as hostages,” he said. |
