Chicks for 531 families
Sampath SANJEEWA
A stock of 5,310 chicks were distributed among 531 families in the
Nachchaduwa Divisional Secretariat division under the Divi Neguma
National Development programme recently, said Divisional Secretary J W S
Kithsiri.
The move will help improve the economic standards of the families and
meet consumption needs of the people in the area, he said.
Lankan lawyer to present paper at Cambridge University

Sri Lankan lawyer Hejaaz Hizbullah has been invited by the University
of Cambridge to present a paper on "The Role of Judges in the
Development of International Law" at its Law Conference to be held in
May on the theme, "Agents of Change the individual as a participant in
the Legal Process".The conference will be held at the Cambridge
University on May 19 and May 20.
JTOs celebrate Golden Jubilee

The Junior Technical Officers (JTOs), who passed out from the
Institute of Practical Technology, Katubedda (IPTK), celebrate their
Golden Jubilee on April 21, at the University of Moratuwa.
The High Commissioner of Canada in Sri Lanka will be the Chief Guest
on the occasion. The ceremony will commence with the planting of a tree
at the University premises by the Chief Guest.
The function will be held at James George Hall.
The High Commissioner of Canada, the President of the JTO Alumina
Capt K S K Perera (Rtd), the Vice Chancellor University of Moratuwa
Professor Ananda Jayawardena and the Director of the Institute of
Technology Dr T A G Gunasekera, will be scheduled to address the
function, while the key note address will be delivered by the
Chancellor, University of Vocational Technology, the Chairman of
Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission and former Chancellor of
the University of Moratuwa Vidya Jyothi Professor Dayantha Wijesekera, a
product of the first batch of JTOs passed out from the IPTK.
Lions Club celebrates 47th anniversary
The Lions Club of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, will celebrate its 47th
Charter Anniversary today at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.
Lion Ganamini Sumanasena will contest for the office of the Second
Vice District Governor on this occasion.
Help save her life
Sunila Wickramasinghe of No. 62,Niralgama Road, Hapurugala, Ratnapura
is suffering from an acute heart ailment. Consultant Cardiothoracic
Surgeon Dr. `Ajith Karunarathna has recommended a Coronary Artery Bypass
Surgery (CABG)to save her life. The surgery is estimated to cost Rs
585,000.
Sunila's husband V.M. Weeraratna says that he is unable to foot this
bill due to their financial plight. He requests the public to assist his
wife's cause by sending possible financial contributions to help
expedite the surgery.

Colombo YMCA Easter celebrations
The Colombo YMCA will conduct its annual Easter programme at the
Galle Face Green tomorrow at 4.30pm.
Several choirs will participate in addition to a performance of an
Easter drama directed by Jerome de Silva.
The Salvation Army Band and POP singers will also participate.
The programme is open to the public.
Senior old Anandians' reunion
A get- together and reunion of Senior Old Anandians will be held on
April 22 from 9.30am to 2pm at the Organisation of Professional
Associations at Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The Senior Old Anandians is a group of Anandians who were students
from the 1930s up to the mid 1980s. It was founded by a group of
Anandians headed by Ranapala Bodinagoda, who was its first president.

Vidudaya Mithuro AGM
The annual general meeting of Vidudaya Mithuro, the Sri
Jayawardenapura University Graduates Association will be held tomorrow
at 9.30am at Laksiri Nivahana, Meldor Place, Nugegoda.
A series of events will follow the AGM, its president Siri Udawatta
said.
Bukhari Muslim feast
The annual Bukhari Muslim feast at the Beruwela Sea Side Mosque,
known as Ketchimala, will be held on April 22 and 23.
The thammam will take place on April 22.
Opening ceremony
The opening ceremony of the Principal's office and the two storeyed
building including a computer unit to commemorate the founder of the Old
Boy's Association of Mahawila Kanishta Vidyalaya, Panadura, and
philanthropist and social worker Gemunu Illeperuma constructed by his
brothers, will be held on April 27 at 4pm.
Technical accessories and computers required for the Computer Unit
are provided by contemporaries of Illeperuma who studied at Sri
Sumangala Vidyalaya, Panadura.

Rashini Navodi Jayasekara, 4, of Kanattawatta, Attudawa, Palatuwa,
Matara is suffering from poor vision in both eyes and doctors treating
her have recommended two cataract operations to restore her vision.
The surgery is estimated to cost Rs 140,000. Rashini's mother H K
Ruvini Kaushalya says her husband is unemployed and as such they are
unable to foot the bill due to their present financial plight.
She requests philanthropists and the public to assist her daughter's
cause by sending financial contributions to help expedite the surgery.
