Rumal, Chaushalya most outstanding players

Rumal Intikhab of Royal College and Chaushalya de Silva of Dialog
Sports Club were adjudged most outstanding players (men and women)
respectively at the all island men's and women's Novices and
Intermediate Table Tennis Championship organized by the Nugegoda Table
Tennis Association and worked off at the Indoor Stadium of St. Thomas
College, Mount Lavinia recently.
Fourteen year Rumal Intikhab of Royal College displayed a lot of
skills in first winning the boys under 15 title by defeating Udith
Jayalath of Maliyadewa College 2/1. He won the first set quite
comfortably 11/5 but lost the second 10/12. He clinched the issue by
winning the third set 11/8.
Rumal Intikhab's second title win was in the boys under 18 and he
once again met Udith Jayalath but made no mistake in scoring an easy 2-0
win to complete the double.
Comparatively new to the sport Chaushalya de Silva of Dialog Sports
Club showed plenty of promise by winning Womens Novices title after
overcoming Hasini Gunasekera of Visakha Vidyalaya but by close margins
of 11/9, 11/7. She had her own way in the Women's Intermediate singles
in defeating Deeksha Rodrigo of Visakha Vidyalaya with ease 11/3, 11/4.
Aftaab Manzil Muthalib of Trinity College ranked No. 1 put up a gutty
performance in overcoming Anshal Hulangamuwa of St. Thomas College to
win the boys under 8 title.
Devangi Perera of Maliyadewa Balika Vidyalaya was given some shivers
by Senuri Perera of Anula Vidyalaya before winning the girls under 15
title 2-1.

Under 10 boys singles: Lahiru Tharanga (P. de S. Kularatne College,
Ambalangoda) beat Zavaresh Chitty (St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia)
9/11, 11/8, 11/6.
Under 12 girls singles: Roshiniya Karunatillake (Holy Family Convent,
Kurunegala) beat Anuradha Hansamalee (Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala)
11/5, 12/10.
Under 12 boys singles: Malith Dulsara (Maliyadewa College, Kurunegala)
beat Nimesh Ranchigoda (Royal College) 11/6, 16/14.
Under 15 girls singles: Devangi Perera (Maliyadewa BV, Kurunegala)
