External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L.
Peiris recently met former Governor-General of New Zealand
Sir Anand Satyanan. Sir Anand held the prestigious position
in 2006-201 and had a distinguished career in the judicial
service in New Zealand before he was appointed the
Governor-General. In 1995, he also served two five-year
terms as the Parliamentary
Ombudsman. He was designated as Knight Grand Companion of
the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2009 and he was honoured
with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award from the President
of India. He was also made a Member of the Royal Order of
the Crown by the King of Tonga. Here Prof. Peiris welcoming

The council of the Association for
the Advancement of Quality and Productivity held the
National Convention of Quality and Productivity 2012 at the
Sri Lanka Foundation Institute recently. Navin Dissanayake,
Minister of Public Management Reforms who was the chief
Guest handed over the best Productivity award for 2012 to
Pearly Liyanage of the Sri Lanka Telecom Ltd. |

An elephant belonging to the Kotte
Raja Maha Viharaya died after being struck by lightning at
Ingiriya. The incident occurred around 5.45pm on Friday. The
elephant named Lanka was 24 years. Several houses in the
area were also damaged after being struck by lightning. The
Maha Sangha of Kotte Raja Maha Vihara and veterinary surgeon
Jayanthi Alahakoon and coroner Udayarathna Liyanage visited
the scene. The elephant was buried at the same location.
