Man-eating croc captured

The man eating crocodile believed to be responsible for the killing of a school girl in Nilwala river had been captured by the Wildlife officers, Wildlife Conservation Department Director Operations H D Ratnayake told the Daily News yesterday.

He said that a special operation to capture the crocodile was launched last Wednesday by a team of Wildlife officers with the support of Young Zoologists Association.

He said that a male crocodile 12 feet long was trapped last morning at the same spot where the school girl was attacked. Ratnayake said that the crocodile would be handed over to the National Zoological Gardens. He said that another crocodile was found dead on the banks of the Nilwala river yesterday. He said that investigations are continuing to find out the cause of the death. He observed that the dead crocodile was 14 feet in length.
