All Lanka Sathosa outlets to be inspected - minister
Atapattu BANDARA
Co-operative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando instructed
Consumer Affairs Authority(CAA) officials to inspect all Lanka Sathosa
outlets and storage facilities in a similar manner as is done with
private shopping malls and super markets.
“The law is equal to everyone. No discriminations should be made
between private and public businesses. The law is equal to all shops and
business establishments island wide, the minister said.
He was participating at the opening ceremony of the 266th Lanka
Sathosa outlet at Ratmalana,Tuesday.
“The government will safeguard the rights of the customer and
maintain discipline in the market to ensure high standard and quality
commodities are provided”, he added.
“Lanka Sathosa and Co-operatives have become the price decider and
have joined the chain of giant shopping malls in the country”, the
minister said.
“The government is committed to providing goods at concessionary
prices while safeguarding a fair market for the customers”, he added.
“The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is pointing fingers at us saying
we are magicians. But the real magicians are none other than
themselves”, he said.
Opposition political parties are always shouting about high prices to
gain political mileage. They have become agents of the trade mafia. The
government will protect the consumer at any cost in the future too, the
minister said.
